About Breast Milk Storage

Soalan-soalan lazim pasal breastmilk srorage.

How long can I:

• Leave my freshly-expressed milk at room temperature?
• Up to two hours at 27 degrees C
• Up to 6 hours at 21 degrees C
• Up to 12 hours at 16 degrees C e.g. in a cooler with ice packs
• Store milk in the refrigerator?
• Two days in a chiller
• Store milk in the freezer?
• Two weeks in a freezer compartment inside a refrigerator
• Three months in a 2 doors  refrigerator
• Six months in a deep freeze that maintains a constant -19 degrees 

Ramai tanya boleh ke campur susu perah waktu lain ngan waktu lain? Setahu aku boleh. We can combine milk from different pump sessions, but cool each batch first lah. It is best to freeze your milk in small quantities (2 to 4 ounces depending on the age of your baby) supaya senang panaskan amount yang perlu diminum sahaja. Leave room in the container for expansion when freezing, and date each container. As your milk cools, the cream may form a thin layer on the surface.  Macam lemak yang terapung. Tapi takpe, kacau/goncang masa dan reheat susu tu.

Ada yang tanya boleh panaskan dalam microwave ke? Microwaving destroys some of the anti-infective properties of the breast milk. Tak pernah pulak panaskan guna microwave. Tak berani lah. Boleh rendam dalam air panas atau lagi senang pakai warmer. Just place the container of milk in a bowl of hot/warm water and heat to room temperature. Or else, just place the bottle in the warmer and wait for few minutes. 

Ada jugak yang tanya, boleh guna lagi tak sus utu kalau ada lebih? While there is no research on this topic, many mothers refrigerate milk the baby did not finish and use it at the very next feed. If you have any doubt, discard the milk. Sebab ada jugak terbaca kita tak boleh refreeze kan balik susu yang dah reheat. Not sure.

What are the best storage containers for breast milk?

• Standard baby bottles

Ada yang rasa mahal kalau beli bottle.

But for me it is worth for long term usage.

Memang bayar lebih tapi boleh guna ulang-ulang.

• Breast milk storage bags

Kalau tak nak beli botttle, boleh beli storage bags ni.

I prefer Autumnz brand because the bag can stand steadily even if it is full with milk.

Kalau brand lain banyak yang lembik-lembik, nak freezekan mesti kena baringkan dalam freezer tu, pastu jadi bengkang bengkok pastu makan space jgk la..

The price also reasonable, RM12.90 for 25 pcs..

Wah asyik promote barang kesukaan je kann..
