Behind the Scene of Baby Photography - Part 5

Theme : Butterfly in the garden
Props : Shawls and toys

Tengah golek-golek dengan allysha, then dia tertido ngan papa..
Nampak agak cute dengan baju corak butterfly cecomel tu..
Eh ye ke? Perasan je kan? Bia la. ; p

Toys ni dia tak main pun.
Just kutil-kutil, pukul-pukul, pastu campak tepi.
She might be dreaming of something.

Then mommy pun gatal la nak amik gambar die.
Try susun-susun, dapat macam kat atas ni.

Ok the idea is to transform Allysha into a cute butterfly.
Seeking honey from winnie the pooh!
Bee pulak carik "where's my honey?"
Heee..Mommy memandai..

Tukar shawl buat kepak tu.
This one more suitable.

Tapiii..baru 1 shot, Allysha dah terpusing-pusing.
Pastu terus terjaga.
Alaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh..
Frust gile i tau...

After 3 hours, dia tdo balik pusing camni pulak.
Gigih mommy tukar position susunan tu.

Then, taraaa!

Here we go!

The shawls for the props..

Allysha, betul ke time ni Allysha mimpi jadi butterfly?

If only i can her dreams.

Photography for Beginners - Tips for Manual Setting

Using your DSLR camera in fully manual mode (M on the top dial), isn't as hard as it first seems. Whether you own a Canon, Nikon, or any other SLR camera brand, using manual mode works basically the same.

Manual mode allows you to set both your aperture and shutter speed separately, without the camera automatically changing the other to suit. With this in mind, you can be more creative with your shots.

Manual mode gives you full control over your exposure. If you are finding a lot of your photographs are either underexposed (too dark) or overexposed (too light) then working in fully manual mode will help you to better understand and correct these exposure problems. Personally, I've found tweaking exposure results in photographs that are much more colorful than those taken in other modes.

How to use manual mode?

  • Firstly set your camera's top dial to the M mode and turn it on.

    Example of manual mode:
    manual mode example

  • To set the shutter speed, turn the rotating dial that looks like this:

    example of rotating dial

  • To set the aperture (f/number), press and hold down the exposure compensation button while turning the rotating dial.

The exposure compensation button on your digital SLR camera looks like this:

    example of exposure compensation button

  • To set the exposure, look through your viewfinder and press the shutter button half way down to focus on an object or scenery. You will then notice at the bottom of the screen what is referred to as a light meter, that looks similar to this:

    camera exposure

For this example, turn the rotating dial again until this exposure line shows 0 exposure. That is, it is neither on the right or left side, but rather set in the middle. If you don't like looking through the viewfinder, you should also be able to see this exposure line on the back LCD display. Take the shot and you'll find a well balanced exposure.

Other tips and hints for using your digital SLR camera in manual mode

  • You will notice when you change the exposure level as demonstrated in the last tip, the shutter speed also changed to suit that particular exposure. You can however set the camera so it's the aperture that changes to suit the required exposure instead. To do this, press the exposure compensation button example of exposure compensation buttondown while turning the rotator to the correct exposure. This way it will be the aperture that is changed and not the shutter speed.

Therefore, before setting the correct exposure, it's important that you ask yourself which setting is more important to keep for your specific shot. Is the aperture more important or the shutter speed? If you're shooting a landscape, then I recommend keeping the aperture (f/number) as you had originally set it to. If you are photographing a moving object like a bird for example, then I recommend keeping the shutter speed setting.

No wonder why did every time I wanted to use the camera, Ish will left it set to Manual mode. Betul lah kata dia, manual lagi senang nak adjust, capture gambar lagi cantik. Ohoi. Baru nak percaya dan baru nak praktikkan. All this while suka guna setting AV/TV/P je. Tapi auto memang tak la. Rugi ada SLR tapi set auto. Baik beli didcam je kalau cenggitu.
Pasti ni mesti Ish bangga kembang kempis idung sebab at last aku dengar cakap dia. Hiks!

Baby Photography for Beginners - How to Use Manual Setting

I used to be a camera freak. My first camera was Canon (no idea what series it was) given by my uncle for my 14th birthday. Used till broken. Then someone bought me a gadget pen drive with a small camera. Like the spy gadget one. Very use full. Used till lost.

After I got a bit saving for doing part time job during semester break, I spent it to have a phone with camera. Cant get enough. After three month working as a banker, I managed to buy the most expensive thing I've ever bought at that time, Sony Cybershot T2 worth RM1,500. Really worth it. Last till now. But already pass it to my SIL as it has a lot of sentimental value and it is better if i dont keep it anymore. Hee..

Last year, hubby and me agreed to have a DSLR camera as our birthday present. OUR birthday present. Haha meaning that we shared to pay the bill lah. Pastu tak payah beli birthday present for year 2011 dah. The reason is to have a good photo of our baby.
But the problem is, I am a DSLR idiot. Seriously. I dont know why I give up easily when the setting and outcome photos doesn't fit my taste. So I would ask my husband to set the camera then. No intention to learn at all. haih.. pemalas.. As I'm getting crazier with Baby Photography lately, I started to read the tips and so on. Found something informative to share here.
How to use manual exposure setting

If you are like me who prefer not to use flash, set the camera exposure mode to manual especially when the lighting is constant. Follow these steps to decide:

  • do I want more of the background or do I want the background to be completely out of focus? This will determine what aperture you will use.
  • after deciding what aperture to use, check if the scene can give you fast enough shutter speed to handle the subjects. If children are running and moving actively, I usually ensure that my shutter speed is at least 1/250 sec or faster depending on the speed of the children movement.
  • if shutter speed is too low to freeze the subjects, increase the ISO so you can get higher shutter speed setting.
  • if shutter speed is still too low after increasing ISO to the max, you may want to go back to point no. 1 and compromise by not getting more of the background. Use the largest possible aperture you can for the lens.
  • if all have been done and nothing else you can do, don’t be discouraged, be prepared with your camera and press the shutter button when the children is at the peak of their movement, when there is usually a brief moment of freeze
So, hopefully I will practice all the tips listed above and stop disturbing my husband just to set the camera. : )

Behind the Scene of Baby Photography - Part 4

Allysha getting louder lately.
Shouting all the time.
So active and her hobby is trying to climb the bed or munch anything she can.
Walker? Her biggest enemy.
Sit down properly? Never.
Cry loudly for a very small reason.
Haiyoohh,..Mommy getting tired.

Lama-lama malas nak layan/pujuk sangat.
Kadang-kadang tertidur sendiri macam gambar kat bawah ni.

Halolooo..sleep ngan barney dia sebab mommy ignore je dia menjerit. Cian.

Pastu bergolek-golek camni. Eee.. Bab kang!

Then mommy got the idea to have another baby photography!!Yay!!

Crop apa yang tak patut.
Edit kat photoscape je sebab tak reti guna photoshoot.

Then, tadaaaaaa!!

Allysha, betul ke time ni Allysha mimpi dinner ngan Barney?

If only I can see her dream.
